Christmas Gathering 2024
What a lovely social evening filled with singing, chatter and laughter. With thanks to our local Pilton Choir for joining us and adding a special tunefulness to the evening and the carol singing of all who came. The mince pies and sausage rolls flowed well with a glass of mulled wine and everyone had a lovely time.

*************** POSTPONED ****************
Due to the arrival of storm Bert on Saturday, and a flood alert for the area, we have made the difficult decision to postpone
the talk on Turtle conservation in Guatemala in North Wootton Village Hall this Saturday 23rd Nov.
The talk will be rearranged in the new year.

Village Hall Report
Having taken a breather after the busy and successful ‘Event on the Green’ day in September, we have now sorted some events through to the new year. This NW news will arrive through your letterbox in early November, in time for dates to find their way into your diary. We look forward to seeing you at some, or all of the events.
All ages welcome to all events.
Saturday 23rd November we have an illustrated talk by Luke Dosanjh on sea turtle conservation in Guatemala where he worked for several years. Luke now lives in the village and his talk will include information on sea turtle ecology, nesting habits, conservation principles and threats to the species. Luke will test us with a turtle quiz at the end! Come and find out about a fascinating part of the world, maybe ignite a desire to visit and, for young people especially, what an exciting opportunity working in marine research could be. Tickets, £7.50, U18 - £5, which will include a ploughman’s supper. There will be a cash/card bar.
Please email if you would like tickets – this really helps with catering.
Wednesday 18th December at 7pm we plan to hold the Village Christmas Gathering; a chance to meet your village neighbours, enjoy a festive drink, and nibbles, together with some music and singing. This is a free event that we organise annually for everyone, although donations towards the festive mulled
wine or juice is appreciated. Full details next month. If you would like to be part of the entertainment during the evening, please let me know. It would be
great to have new input. All ages and standards welcome. If you are coming with children it would be great to know beforehand so that we can organise a suitable
fun activity for them to enjoy; just send a quick email re numbers and age. It would be great to have all ages come along.
Tuesday 31st December - New Year’s Eve bonfire and fireworks on the Green to welcome in 2023. This has become a popular event in the village, and we look forward to welcoming in the new year with you again. In order for even our youngest residents and visitors to join in, this is an early evening event
celebrating the year to come, 7pm bonfire and 7.30 fireworks. Full details next month.
You may see bonfire material arriving early, so that we can collect enough. If you use the Green with your children, please be aware that the stacked material will not be safe to climb on, please keep clear. If anyone knows of a source of pallets or wood we could use, please get in touch. Please could you not add material to the bonfire, unless we have agreed (please ring or email me); it can make building a safe bonfire more difficult, and for everyone’s safety we need to know what we are burning on the fire.
We were fortunate during the Covid restrictions to receive some funds made available to village halls to keep them going in difficult times. We are now ‘back to normal’ and we need to be self supporting again, so please join us for events if you can and donate as generously as you can. Our next upgrade of the hall will be to improve the acoustics. Money surplus to covering running costs of the Hall will be used for this in the coming year.
If you have thoughts about these events, or what you would like to see instead or as well as, please let us know.
